Yale University Press publishes writings of Jack Tworkov. Edited by Mira Schor, this book, the first collection of Tworkov’s writings, sheds new light on the lives and studio practices of Tworkov and his colleagues as well as on Tworkov’s artistic theories and values. Jack Tworkov (1900--1982) was a significant figure of the Abstract Expressionist period. A noted painter, he was instrumental in defining the ideals of the New York School, along with Willem de Kooning, Barnett Newman, Ad Reinhardt, and Franz Kline, among others.

Mitchell-Innes & Nash announces an upcoming exhibition of paintings by Jack Tworkov from February 20 through March 30, 2007. Jack Tworkov: Rhythm, 1955-1970 will feature works inspired by the evolving New York jazz and music scene of the 1950s and 60s. The first exhibition to illuminate the connection between music and Tworkov’s rhythmic brushstroke, paintings on view will include those named for musical styles and venues including the jazz club Five Spot and the legendary music label Blue Note.

Twrkv at Mitchell-Innes & Nash and Ameringer Howard Yohe

Mitchell-Innes & Nash, is pleased to announce their exhibition Jack Tworkov: Red, White and Blue. This historical survey of paintings and drawings by the late Abstract Expressionist artist will be on view from March 6 through April 13, 2002. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Ameringer Howard Yohe Gallery, located in the Fuller Building, at 41 East 57th Street, New York.
